An estimated 15 billion trees are cut down yearly - more than 41 million trees per day. Working from home, I realized the amount of sick, cut, or trimmed trees in our neighborhood. When I have these encounters, I mourn and use the Gyotaky technique to capture their story. Being grateful for their sorrow and our interconnected lost

  Historial fact:
For many generations, studying rocks and trees was more important than money.
By reading trees and matching living tree patterns, they could date when archeological sites were built or unlock climate history. In temperate landscapes, the width of the tree will talk about climate conditions, how dry, wet, warm, or even stressors, such as droughts, were part of their life growth. They provide a glimpse into the past, enabling them to predict the future. Trees have also shown how climate change has amplified past epidemics.
These songs and rituals are a continued research into the implications and
rights we have with the earth
