We all need art - an expressive medium closer to our senses and true feelings. I love to create a safe space for adults, neurodivergent children, and teens as a safe space for reflection, flow, and intentional breaks. Using art techniques and storytelling to reduce sensory overload, move stories we cannot talk about, and bring tolerance, flexibility, and experimentation through gradual exposure to sensitive topics.
The first phase aims to reduce stress and anxiety, allow flow, and build sense-ability to generate new patterns through grounding stabilization and embodiment. Yes, we will draw and do art with the whole body and mind. The second phase is trauma-focused and integration and meaning-making depending on the needs of each individual.
The purpose of art therapy protocols goes beyond stabilizing the nerves. It focuses on decreasing avoidance and bringing awareness, acceptance, and mindfulness to the present moment, skills often referred to in CBT and DBT.
Art-making in art therapy may provide relaxation, decrease arousal, reduce avoidance around positive and negative memories, and build resilience through emotional exploration and externalization of memories and emotions.
Art therapeutic interventions are deeply linked to the activation of implicit and explicit memory. They help build bridges and connections that integrate and stimulate both sides of the brain and the meaning-making processes. They are perfect for neurodiverse children and teenagers who are overstimulated or developing.
I have a bachelor of Art and Art Certification and numerous holistic healing certifications. I am currently working and training for ABA therapy and studying Art Gestalt Therapy. I'm passionate about art's role in society and how we can use creativity to develop personal resilience, emotional intelligence, mindfulness, and connection to our senses and the real world.
As the current healthcare system struggles to meet the behavioral needs of people of all backgrounds, I offer various price options, group classes, and virtual and one-to-one classes in private and community centers.
